Recycling, Reworking, Repurposing – Art and the Aesthetics of Waste

Artistic Directors and SKIP Gallery founders Catherine Borowski and Lee Baker recently joined a panel discussion at the Institute of Advanced Studies UCL.

Theme – Waste: Recycling, Reworking, Repurposing – Art and the aesthetics of waste. Panelist’s included Phyllida Barlow, Tamar Garb and Hillary Powell.

Phyllida Barlow is hero for us all at Produce, so to be invited to join a panel talk alongside her was a great honour.

In 2014 Phyllida Barlow staged a vast show at Tate Britain. It’s hard to describe the profound impact it had on us and it was certainly one of the catalysts that led to Baker&Borowski creating SKIP Gallery. Her use of everyday waste materials to create titanic environments is the perfect venn diagram of boldness, mischief, inventiveness and wit.
